Last week we welcomed our new CEO, Catherine Liddle to the FNMA team. Catherine will work closely with Daniel Featherstone during a three-month handover period as she settles into the new role. Catherine is known to many in our industry through her previous role with Jawun Indigenous Corporate Partnerships, as interim-General Manager at ICTV and her work with NITV over a number of years. Catherine is looking forward to catching up with members, stakeholders and industry partners at CONVERGE Alice Springs and excited about the role ahead. "This is a great time to be joining First Nations Media Australia," says Catherine, "with so many positive projects underway and in the pipeline I’m really looking forward to supporting our sector in this position and continuing the good work the Board and the staff team have in progress." Catherine Liddle, Daniel Featherstone and Claire Stuchbery are attending the 2019 CBAA Conference in Melbourne this weekend to keep up to date with developments in the broader community radio sector.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island delegates attending the conference caught up for a First Nations meet-up just before the event kicked off. Catherine facilitated a session about increasing First Nations content on general licensed stations in discussion with Erica Higgins from 3KND, Johnny Mac from 3CR, Grace Pashley from 4ZZZ and Claire Stuchbery talking about indigiTUBE. The Coalition of Peaks has been running engagement sessions all over the country to get community input on priorities for Closing the Gap. The group of 40 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled organisations has signed a partnership agreement with Government to co-design a new Closing the Gap framework for the next ten years and they’re asking for your thoughts. In addition to the community meetings, an online survey is underway for individuals to have your say. First Nations Media Australia will submit a report on discussions with our members. We encourage all media staff to participate in the survey and to share this information with your audiences. The survey closes on 8 November. Screen Australia’s Indigenous Department has been running a roadshow to talk about the next 25 years. Along with AFTRS Indigenous, ABC Indigenous and NITV, Screen Australia has been visiting towns and cities to meet emerging and established Indigenous creatives. Discussions cover funding and career development opportunities and allow for one-on-one conversations with representatives from each organisation. Upcoming dates include 25 November in Shepparton, 26 November in Melbourne, 27 November in Adelaide 28 November in Port Augusta and dates are being confirmed for Ballina and Sydney in December. Larry will share the experiences and learnings from the Maori media shift in New Zealand. Traditional Owners from the Kaurareg nation welcomed over 150 delegates from the First Nations media industry to Waiben (Thursday Island) in September for the biggest festival yet with delegates from 34 organisations travelling from every state. We want to thank our co-hosts, TSIMA Radio 4MW for all of their work in putting together a successful event. Delegates participated in skills workshops, forums and discussions, nightly cinema screenings, awards, cultural activities and a showcase of local contemporary music and arts. CAAMA Radio will join the Anangu traditional owners to celebrate the closure of the Uluru climb. To mark this momentous and historical occasion CAAMA Radio will be broadcasting live from Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park on Sunday 27th October from 2pm to 9:30pm CST
There will speeches and interviews followed by Inma, a traditional Anangu ceremony.
Entertainment from Central Australian Aboriginal Women’s Choir, Mala Band, Mutitjulu Band, Docker River Band and Shane Howard Trio and Trevor Adamson.

There's a great job going at our only national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander print newspaper! Koori Mail is looking for someone to join their team in Lismore, NSW as an Online Coordinator to support the Editorial and Advertising departments.
They're after someone who:
- Is tech savvy and experienced in website maintenance and social media platforms to inform and engage audiences
- Familiar with social media scheduling and reporting programs
- Has the ability to support the development of creative and fresh content
- Excellent communicator with exceptional grammar, spelling and a flair for creative writing
- A multi-tasker with a keen eye for detail and knowledge of social media analytics.
To do this, we need someone who has exceptional attention to detail, is hard working, shows a great work ethic, works well within a team environment, and can work towards deadlines and under pressure when needed. A bonus would be if you had a passion for creating content using digital media (audio/video).

The CMTO is now seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from people across Australia who are suitable and willing to be considered for appointment to our Board of Directors.
The current CMTO Board is comprised of people are nominated by peak representative bodies across the community broadcasting sector. The board is seeking to enhance the effectiveness and relevance of its strategic capacity by ensuring that it continues to be informed by diverse and inclusive perspectives on developments in community media.
It hopes to build this capacity by adding up to two additional independent Directors to the current board of five. Enquiries about the EOI and its process can be directed to Christina Spurgeon via chair at cmto.org.au.
