VALE DR S.BUSH-BLANASI

It is with sadness that First Nations Media Australia acknowledges the passing of Dr S. Bush-Blanasi, a proud Manyili man from Wugularr (Beswick), Northern Territory. Dr S. Bush-Blanasi dedicated over 34 years to shaping the landscape of the Australian Indigenous media sector.

His extensive involvement in various capacities reflects the depth of his life's work, empowering First Nations People. We extend our deepest condolences to his immediate family, colleagues & community. FNMA pays respects on behalf of its Board of Directors, Membership, and Staff.

inDigiMOB Update
The InDigiMOB team are out and about in the APY Lands, making visits to connect with communities!

Gina, Sonja, Lyall, and Glenys have been having chats with mob about their experiences with Telstra. They've also been working hard to identify people who might have been affected by Telstra’s conduct unconscionable involving sales of post-paid mobile products between 2016 and 2018.

So far, the team has held workshops in Fregon, Mimili, and Pukatja, Indulkana and Amata for community discussions! Visit our facebook page to see the updates from the community visits.

Live Stream: 2023 AUSTRALIAN WOMENS MUSIC AWARDS

indigiTUBE was fortunate to partner with The 2023 Australian Womens Music Awards and live streaming the AWMA First Nations Showcase on Tuesday the 26th of September from The Tivoli in Brisbane Qld.
The showcase was MC'd by Dizzy Doolan and Hope One with Performances from GLVES, Jem Cassar-Daley, Kaweyova, Kristal West, Megan Samardin, Suga Cane Mamas, The Briscoe Sisters and The Merindas.

Live Stream: NSW Aboriginal Languages Week

indigiTUBE recently live streaming yet another great event.

The NSW Aboriginal Language Trust celebrated the NSW Aboriginal Languages Week by staging their inaugural NSW Aboriginal Languages Festival at the National Centre for Indigenous Excellence, NCIE in Redfern NSW. The week is to highlight and bring awareness to Aboriginal languages and increase support for language revitalisation.

A part of the festival was a music and dance concert featuring, the Gamay Dancers, Buuja Buuja Butterfly Dancers, JK-47, Barkaa and heaps more.

indigiTUBE partnered with the NSW Aboriginal Language Trust to live stream the 5-hour concert which was viewed by mob all across the country.

A huge thank you goes out to Executive Director Clare Ingrey who made the live stream possible.

PAKAM

In a recent encounter in Broome, Dot had the pleasure of meeting with the dedicated staff from Pilbara and Kimberley Aboriginal Media (PAKAM).

During their discussion, Dot and the team delved into the challenges encountered by the First Nations broadcasting sector. They explored how enhanced connectivity and technology could play a pivotal role in overcoming these challenges.

The insights shared by Neil and the PAKAM team were particularly enlightening. They shed light on the cultural significance of their work and illuminated the ways in which they foster connection and keep remote communities informed. It was a valuable exchange, highlighting the importance of leveraging technology to strengthen the impact of First Nations media.

FIRST NATIONS BROADCAST AUSTRALIA


First Nations Broadcasting Australia and, Prof. Donna Odegaard AM was invited by the Royal Australian Navy to attend the decommissioning of HMAS Larrakia.

Prof. Donna Odegaard's connection with HMAS Larrakia is both unique and profound. Having served as the Commissioning lady during its inception, played a crucial role in its Naming, and now standing as the Decommissioning lady, Prof. Odegaard's journey spans its entire duration of service. Her close relationship with the commanders and crew further exemplifies the impactful engagement she has had throughout.

The decommissioning event was a celebration, acknowledging the invaluable services provided by HMAS Larrakia to all Australians. First Nations TV 4 will be releasing a documentary capturing the essence of HMAS Larrakia.

Kluge-Ruhe Residential Fellowship: First Nations Curator
In partnership with Creative Australia, Kluge-Ruhe is offering a residential fellowship in Charlottesville, Virginia, USA. The fellow will curate an exhibition of recent and promised gifts of acrylic paintings on canvas by Pila Nguru (Spinifex People) from Western Australia produced between 2001-2021. LINK HERE
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Pathway Program
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Pathway Program is a higher education pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The program is open to those who are working, unemployed, studying at TAFE or finishing high school. LINK HERE

The Aboriginal Ranger Program (ARP) aims to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations manage Country and protect the environment across WA in partnership with the public and private sectors. LINK HERE
Indigenous Australians PhD/Professional Doctorate to Postdoctoral Fellowship (P2P) Program

NT ONLY: The Territories Stolen Generation Redress Scheme (the Scheme) provides support to Stolen Generations survivors who were removed from their families and communities. LINK HERE
Funding
Aboriginal Business Development Program
The Aboriginal Business Development Program provides funding for Aboriginal people who are residents in the N.T to help start or expand their business. Link here
First Nations Arts Business Grants focus on strengthening business skills and capacity of First Nations artists, artsworkers and arts and cultural organisations in Queensland. Link here
This one-off establishment grant of $2,500 helps organisations that are setting up language classes for the first time. It helps new community languages schools in their first year. Link here
Indigenous Digital Media Grants
Indigenous Digital Media Grants (IDMG) provided one-time financial support to SFU researchers, creators, and makers to cover costs associated with the development of Indigenous digital resources. We welcomed applications for projects that aimed to create forms of “digital media” through processes of digitisation, or through the creation of new media (films, podcasts, websites, etc). Link here
