2021 has begun and we knew we'd see a lot of new music from artists new and old but the breadth and diversity of these new tunes have blown us away! Sachem had a great debut year in 2020 and has released his latest track "Democracy", the song is a powerful track that touches on the Black Lives Matter movement here and in the USA. First Nations Led Punk Band 'Chasing Ghost's' have released their new track 'Summer' the song is described as a memorial of the sole survivor of the Tower Creek Massacre in 1856, “Baaba” (Babaang) Jack Scott, and all of those who lost their lives that day near Bellbrook NSW.

The Community Reporters have started contributing some great yarns to be shared with others. As well as covering Survival Day, we’ve had stories on the revival of ceremony in the Pilbara from Tangiora Hinaki at PAKAM; a proposed Djabugay Art Centre outside of Cairns from Bumma Bippera Media’s Carli Willis; Chevon McKenzie at Umeewarra profiles Port Augusta author Rhanee Tsetsakos and BBM’s Cassie Tim reports on plans to increase the number of births on country in North Queensland.
The reporters have continued with their training this week, learning the basics of community journalism from the CMTO and undertaking Google News Initiative course on tips and tricks for news gathering online. More to come!

Want to set up an online archive?
Building on the successful trial of the Mukurtu archive platform in 2020, First Nations Media Australia has received Australia Council funding to assist up to 15 organisations to set up online archives on the First Nations Media Archive hub during 2021. This open source system enables organisations to catalogue, upload and share your media content according to local community access protocols.
FNMA can provide assistance with the setup and hosting of your site as well as targeted training and support for organisations to manage your own collections.
