Under Telstra’s Core Digital Skills Project, inDigiMOB are returning to Port Augusta (SA) and Point Pearce (SA) early April and in the process of planning engagements within WA & NT. The primary aim of this project is to work together with and support remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to build locally relevant digital capability and develop basic literacy skills required to operate competently and safely in the online environment.
inDigiMOB are also preparing to return to 21 communities for round two of engagements across NT, SA and WA. The regions to be visited include Alice Springs, Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands, Darwin, Broome and the greater Kimberley region and Arnhem Land. The Community Services Program is a requirement of an undertaking given to the Australia Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) by Telstra in November 2020, as part of addressing sales practices issues investigated at several Telstra stores.

New rules to keep us connected
|
|
|
People struggling to pay their phone or internet bills will be better supported by new rules that focus on keeping them connected. From 29 March 2024, under the new Financial Hardship Standard, phone and internet providers (telcos) must:
- proactively identify people who may be experiencing financial hardship
- display their financial assistance policy prominently on their website or app
- offer customers at least 6 different options for assistance, including payment plans and the option to extend or defer payments
- focus on keeping the customer connected.
ACMA have a range of resources to let people know about these new protections, with more available soon for First Nations communities. Visit the website for the resources or, here for assistance if you can’t pay your phone or
internet bill.
ACMA are looking for ideas or suggestions on how to get this valuable information out to as many communities as possible. Some ideas may be providing pre-recorded radio spots, or an on-air announcer mentioning the initiative or providing hard copy assets like posters or postcards that tell people where to get information. We are also looking for advice and/or help in updating our social media creatives to make them more relevant to First Nations communities. If you have ideas or feedback, we’d love to hear from you! For more information, contact Kathleen Stevens from ACMA.
