THE DESERT EXPERIENCE
19TH REMOTE INDIGENOUS MEDIA FESTIVAL
Take the red desert highway to the Irrunytju (Wingellina) community in WA for this year's Festival. 'Bring your swag and we’ll show you our country and culture in the desert' says Community Chairperson Chris Reid. This year will be a grassroots community celebration with a strong media training workshop focus. Co-host NG Media and the Irrunytju community welcome remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander media organisations and workers to the Ngaanyatjarra Lands #RIMF

THE GO-TO RADIO SERVICE
REMOTE INDIGENOUS RADIO
Remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander radio is the go-to radio service for government information and news in very remote communities. With a high weekly listenership of 80% of very remote peoples, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander radio is the preferred channel for factual content, rating above television and Internet.
CANBERRA MEETINGS
28 – 30 MARCH 2017
Last week our Assistant Manager Jenny Nixon and General Manager Daniel Featherstone were joined by Board member Dot West for meetings in Canberra. Meetings were held with Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, National Film and Sound Archive and AIATSIS. An MoU was signed to cooperate on supporting preservation of audiovisual collections held by media organisations and remote communities. IRCA also attended the NITV launch of their new animation series Little J and Big Cuz in Parliament House, of which Dot West is a lead writer. Congratulations NITV. 

SECTOR ROUNDTABLE
COMMUNITY BROADCASTING
Our Chair John 'Tadam' Lockyer and General Manager Daniel Featherstone attended the community broadcasting Sector Roundtable in Melbourne. 
The Sector Roundtable came together for two days to discuss future challenges and opportunities for the sector. It identifies and discusses sector needs, emerging issues, policy positions, funding requirements and joint advocacy initiatives. The next Sector Roundtable will be held in August 2017.

TIWI ISLANDS GRAND FINAL
DID YOU SEE THE ICTV BROADCAST?
WITH LIVE RADIO OUTSIDE BROADCAST BY TEABBA
ICTV aired an outstanding broadcast of the Tiwi Islands Football League (TIFL) Grand Final on
Saturday 25 March. Amid the wild weather, 
Gina Campbell, John Hodgson and Heath Baxter filmed the game with a local team of six amazing camera trainees; Louis Kantilla, Grace Young, Patrick Heenan, Paul Portaminni, Ron Poantimilui & Fabian Kantilla. The project was directed by Josh Davis and technical support by Ben Pridmore.

The other games from the day will be broadcast every Saturday night at 7pm until 22 April. S
upported by the Tiwi Islands Football League, TEABBA (Top End Aboriginal Bush Broadcasting Association), the Community Broadcasting FoundationAustralian Department of Health,  
Amity Community Services, Sea Swift and Mercure Darwin Airport Resort.

FAREWELL KENNY REYS 
A BROADCAST AND MEDIA PIONEER   
Mr Kenny Reys recently passed after a long illness. We acknowledge Kenny's contribution and commitment as one of the pioneers for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander media industryKenny served on the National Indigenous Media Association Australia NIMAA Board, was the Station Manager of Bumma Bippera Media BBM), became Chair of the Australian Indigenous Communications Association (AICA) and was part of the founding team who set up National Indigenous Television (NITV). We send condolences to family and friends across the country. 
CAAMA CEO APPOINTMENT 
CONGRATULATIONS KARL HAMPTON   Congratulations to Karl Hampton on his appointment as the new CEO of Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association (CAAMA). Karl brings extensive experience to this role and we look forward to continuing our work with CAAMA to support the Aboriginal-owned media services it provides.
NEW 3KND STATION MANAGER 
CONGRATULATIONS GMAN   Congratulations to Gerry Terati Lyons (Gman) on his appointment as the new 3KND Station Manager. After three years leading the team at Melbourne’s Indigenous broadcaster 3KND, Indigenous media pioneer Jim Remedio is moving on. We acknowledge Jim’s extensive contribution to the sector and wish him all the best in his future endeavours. We look forward to working with 3KND and Gman in his new role.
