FIRST SOUNDS VOL.2 OUT NOW
The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia and First Nations Media Australia are thrilled to unveil First Sounds Vol.2, featuring new and emerging First Nations artists from around Australia. In the second instalment of this innovative series of releases, the organisations have teamed up their Amrap and indigiTUBE initiatives to deliver more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music to Australian community radio.

Featuring 12 chosen artists from Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth to the Torres Strait Islands, Yuendumu to Yirrkala in East Arnhem Land, First Sounds Vol.2 is a sonic buffet of First Nations music ranging from traditional to modern hip hop, alternative roots, acoustic and contemporary pop. This compilation represents First Peoples contributions to the musical landscape spanning 65,000 years to now.

Respected singer-songwriter Shellie Morris formed part of the selection panel for First Sounds Vol.2:

"What an amazing initiative supporting First Nations Artists, and a great way to share our songs and music across this country. It is so important to have this opportunity for our First Nations Artists; this creates opportunities and builds a better nationwide perspective on our stories and culture. CBAA, Amrap and indigiTUBE collaborating together will enable so many artists to get their songs out there to be heard and appreciated by so many."

First Sounds Vol.1 was distributed to over 200 community radio stations on CD with broadcasters eager to present awesome new First Nations music to devoted audiences. The same will happen again for Vol.2, and broadcasters can find all First Sounds tracks on Amrap. All First Nations music submitted to First Sounds will be made accessible to community radio via the Amrap and indigiTUBE platforms.

Nyapillilingu; Spirit Lady is the opening track on First Sounds Vol.2, fusing traditional song of ancient heritage with electronic and classical sound worlds. Rrawun Maymuru comes from a long line of Yolngu songmen from Yirrkala, a remote community in North East Arnhem Land:

"I’m very proud to be a part of this album. It helps communicate our culture especially about the clans from my father's and grandfather's side. It was very good to work with Nick Wales who understands the spirit of this song”.
