As 2016 comes to a close, we would like to extend a massive thanks for supporting IRCA and the remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander media sector this past year.
It’s been a huge year for IRCA, with our annual National Remote Indigenous Media Festival in Yirrkala, a range of exciting events, projects, research and policy activities. The IRCA Annual Report 2015/16 gives an overview of the outcomes and impact of
IRCA’s work on behalf of the sector and constituents in remote Indigenous Australia. Mid 2016 saw IRCA begin expanding our role and representation to become the new national peak body for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander broadcasting, media and communications industry. This has involved a change of the Constitution and membership structure, draft Strategic Plan, and new policies. The IRCA Board and staff have worked hard throughout
the year to plan, consult and implement these changes in conjunction with membership and stakeholders; remote, regional and urban. The new Constitution has now been endorsed by our membership and approved by ORIC. We are now inviting members to join us and the IRCA Board
has waived the membership fees for 2016/17. Membership information and forms here.
We wish you all the best for the festive season and look forward to working together with you again in 2017 to support the development of our diverse and innovative sector.
IRCA NEWS
REMOTE INDIGENOUS RADIO
HIGHEST RATING RADIO IN REMOTE COMMUNITIES
Results of the 2016 Remote Audience Survey show that remote Indigenous radio is far and above the top rated station in remote communities. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in remote communities have until now been largely unrepresented in surveys of radio and
television preferences. IRCA will be working with RIMOs in 2017 to identify further useful areas of analysis from the data collected.
IRCA acknowledges the funding support from the Community Broadcasting Foundation and Indigenous Advancement Strategy. The support of the participating RIMOs, local interviewers and McNair Ingenuity Research has been vital to the completion of the survey.
