VOICE. TREATY. TRUTH. ENDANGERED LANGUAGES PROJECT RELEASES TODAY
Approximately 90 per cent of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages and dialects are bordering on extinction. CAAMA Music have released Therrka Endangered Languages today in recognition of 2019 as the International Year of Indigenous Languages. Featured above is Stuart Nuggett with his new EP in the language of Jingili, with only 5 native speakers alive today. Stuart was guided by his mother Janet Sandy-Gregory when writing these lyrics, making this album a very special historical record to share with the world. The project also includes The Williams Family (Western Aranda), Lemih Thompson (Pintupi-Luritja) and Jonathan Doolan and the Areyonga Band (Pitjantjatjara). You can access the full music series release HERE.

WORKING TOGETHER FOR A SHARED FUTURE
This NAIDOC we continue the national conversation about the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our voice recognises our 250 plus languages, including 800 dialects, that were spoken prior to 1788. We acknowledge that Australia is the only Commonwealth nation that doesn’t have a treaty with us, and its absence suggests an ongoing denial of the existence and dispossession of First
Nations people in Australia. We see the growing momentum to establish a truth-telling commission as a starting point to working together for a shared future.
